Maria van Nieukerken alto, conductor
From Nieukerken studied choral conducting with Daniel Reuss at the SweelinckConservatory in Amsterdam. At the same institution she graduated a few yearsmajoring in piano with Marcel Baudet and Alexandre Hrisanide. Also attended classes choral and orchestral conducting with Marcus Creed, Jos van Veldhovenand Paul Van Nevel.
Mary Nieukerken is the permanent conductor of the young professional chamber choir PA'dam, since 2001 the Dutch Student Chamber Choir and since 1 July2008 of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Choir of Music. Previously she was director of Lingua Musica Chamber Choir, Leiden, for vocal ensemble The Gents and from 2003 to 2009 of the Grand Concert Choir Amsterdam.
In addition, Mary Nieukerken frequently as assistant conductor of CappellaAmsterdam, Collegium Vocale Gent and the Deutsches Kammerchor. She worked closely with Philippe Herreweghe, Heinz Holliger and Reinbert. In 2005 she was involved in a choral conductor Cappella Amsterdam & National TouringOpera at the Opera 'Thyeste' by Jan van Vlijmen, the Netherlands and Brussels.
Together with organist-conductor Dijkstra Wim Van Nieukerken initiator of theauthoritative Bach concert in Monnickendam.
In recent years, Mary Nieukerken committed themselves to implement with elements of theater and dance to enrich. Sometimes, she is also self-directed, likeSimeon ten Holt's Bi-Ba-Bo by the Dutch Student Chamber Choir. Much attentionwas also given her interpretation of Mozart's Requiem.
