Paul Leenhouts recorder, composer
Paul Leenhouts studied recorder and oboe at the Sweelinck Conservatory inAmsterdam, where he graduated in 1981 as a soloist. Within this institute, the current Amsterdam Conservatory, he taught majoring recorder between 1993 and 2010. From 1978 until today he is part of the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet.Because of his interest in new music in 2002 he founded the Blue Iguana oncontemporary chamber music collective. In 1986 he was the initiator of the OpenDutch Recorder Days Utrecht. Since 1990 he has headed the InternationalBaroque Institute at Longy in Boston.
The last 15 years he has also specialized in 16th century consort music and formed in 1997 with thirteen students the renaissance ensemble The Royal WindMusic. In 2004, Paul Leenhouts elected president of the First European RecorderPerformance Festival in Amsterdam. Besides numerous concerts and workshopsat home and abroad, he works regularly with several contemporary musicensembles and theater companies (Musik Fabrik, Dutch Vocal Laboratory, ZTHollandia and NT Gent). Paul Leenhouts has recorded CDs for DeccaL'Oiseau-Lyre, Channel Classics, Vanguard, Lindoro and Berlin Classics, twoshots were awarded with an Edison.
