Percussionist/composer Brian Johnson (born 1953 in New York) has appeared as soloist and ensemble musician in many of the major venues for new and experimental music throughout the United States, and made frequent appearances in New Music America festivals. As a soloist, ...he has premiered works by leading figures of the American avant garde, including John Cage, Alvin Lucier, Joseph Celli, and Stuart Saunders Smith. He has been called "an unsung hero" by Kyle Gann of The Village Voice. As an ensemble performer, Johnson has premiered works by Christian Wolff, Ornette Coleman, Malcolm Goldstein and others. He has produced and released a series of recordings of his own works for percussion and voice entitled The Human Being Waxes Poe/cussive. Other recording credits include the CBS, Folkways, Spectrum Button, Woodcrest and O.O. Discs recording lables.
