**** The Karnatic Lab **** March 24th 2005
This month the Karnatic Lab will be coming at you in surround sound!
We are exploring a ‘new’ technology, the DVD Audio and Super Audio CD formats. These discs make it possible to listen to multichanel music with speakers all around you, giving a fuller image of the sound. We will have a system setup and will play some short recordings made just for this technology, with works by Luigi Nono, Pauline Oliveros, Lukas Ligeti, among others. In between there will be several live multichannel works and improvisations by Jos Zwanenburg, Wiek Hijmans and Batscapez, an improvising ensemble mixing with various bat signal sounds. To balance out all this spinning sound is Denisov’s Sonate for saxophone and piano.
